INTRODUCTION
The HTML version of the x86 Assembly Language FAQ is designed to work
internally on a system supporting long filename, i.e., Windows NT or Windows
95. Since I am distributing this version of the FAQ using PKZIP, I am
restricted to 8.3 convention for filename. This can cause problems.
LONG FILENAME SYSTEMS
On these systems just rename all the files from *.htm to *.html, and all the
links should work.
SHORT FILENAME SYSTEMS
My testing on Microsoft Windows 3.11 indicates that, atleast, the Netscape
browser is quite forgiving in that it will open .htm files when .html was
specified in the URL in the FAQ. If your browser is not so forgiving, run the
enclosed program, CONVERT, that will change all internal FAQ references from
.html to .htm. Then, all should work.
CONVERT has been written as a DOS program and should run under the DOS box of
Windows NT and 95. If for some reason, CONVERT can not be used, you can use a
text editor to perform the same conversion. Since the .html files are just
text files, open up the files in your favorite word processor. Perform a
global search and replace of ".html#" with ".htm#". Remember to save the
resulting file as a text file with the extension of .htm.
